Kim Akers and her husband moved to Grandview 24 years ago so their daughters could go to school in Grandview. Long time Grandview residents will understand when she says, “We were all blessed when our oldest daughter got to have Cindy Bryant for kindergarten!”Kim works for Community Living Concepts, serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in 16 group homes throughout Johnson County, including Grandview. She also teaches adaptive PE in Alvarado ISD.  She is a member of FBC Grandview and the Grandview Lions Club.

When her children were in school, she served on the GVISD school board. Kim has volunteered for the Special Olympics for over 30 years and she loves basketball and traveling. She has even had the exciting opportunity to be an official at the Special Olympics World games in Ireland. Her favorite hobby that she spends LOTS and LOTS of time doing is geocaching. “It has taken me outside to places I never would have gone if I wasn’t hunting a geocache and has introduced me to some really cool people.” She enjoys it so much, she once cracked her head open in a cave, got stitches, and went right on caching.

Kim and her husband, John, have been married for almost 31 years.  Their two daughters still live

nearby - Meredith (Mere) works at Community Living Concepts and Jacyln (Jac) is a dental hygienist in Dallas. “We have 2 awesome kids. They are just kind and caring people.” Kim has 4 rules she lives by well: Make your own sunshine; smile and nod; see a need fill a need; and never wear cheap perfume.
